Story Time

60 - That’s the average age of today’s coffee farmer.

It’s crazy to think about it, but for a drink as popular as coffee, most of the hard labor is done by the older generation! Many of today’s youth don’t see much opportunities in continuing their family farms and neither do their parents, so they leave home and head to the cities in search of other career potentials.

The future of coffee farming might look bleak, but thankfully there are those like the ASOBOMBO Association to try and change the outlook! This particular assocation in Colombia is made up of 170 young producers hell-bent on bringing a generational change to Huila’s coffee community. Nearly half of all the producers are women, and they all work together as a group incorporating traditional customs and modern day approaches to agriculture. By setting a new standard that marries the old and the new together, the efforts of these farmers result in high-value coffee and farm sustainability. On average, they also receive 35% more income for their coffee paving the way to a revitalized energy and brighter future for the youth to work in the coffee community.

This batch of ASOBOMBO Huila that we are offering is a washed organic coffee showcasing the regions Caturra, Colombia, Pink Bourbon, and Geisha varieties. The Huila region is blessed with nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and given it’s perfect climate for coffee growing, Huila’s coffee tends to feature bright acidity, sweetness, and fragrant aromas.
