Story Time

We’re always looking for unique coffee beans that create a social impact and have an amazing story to tell. With this round of exploration, we are proud to offer a microlot of Guatemala Huehuetenango produced by La Morena!

In Guatemala, gender equality remains a challenge and coffee has long been a male-dominated industry. This has made it extremely difficult for women to compete and be successful in the coffee world. Our green coffee importer Genuine Origins started the La Morena program back in 2016 with their sister company Volcafe down in Guatemala. Their hopes in this project was to promote gender equality through the coffee trade and highlight traceable women produced coffees.

In 2017, the first lot of La Morena launched and featured four women producers making about 32 boxes of coffee. Fast forward to today, La Morena supports countless women across Guatemala spanning 8 different cities. Our Huehuetenango offering here is specifically produced in collaboration with 23 women producers from the La Morena program and we are proud to support their cause to empower women to do more!
